I want you guys help to choose a Budget Windows Workstation Laptop. Following are the applications I want to run.

  • CAD software: Solid Works, SolidCam, Altium
  • Multimedia Editing: Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop
  • DAW: Avid Pro Tools

Display Quality, Overall build quality and weight, Battery life time, Durability and the Keyboard usability should be considered.

Hi Priyanga,

There are Laptops which are categorized as workstations and cost an arm and a leg! If you could give us an indication of your budget it will be easy to provide a good choice.

But as a general Guideline, CAD, Editing Workstation will greatly benefit from large screens like 22" or 24" as you need more viewing real estate to design & edit.

As you're looking for a laptop that wants the best of both worlds, you could pick a Laptop from a brand of your choice that has a somewhat 17" screen with a powerful CPU (8th gen i7) and a Graphic card like GTX1050

You will find this combination on the Gaming category of most Laptops and pick a design you like & the keyboards that gets your liking. (Full num pads etc).

You can read the following article to get an idea on what kind of laptops you get from MSI.  https://www.pcguide.lk/how-to-choose-msi-laptops/

Hello Mr Priyadarshana,

Thank  You for your immediate response. I have watched your review videos on MSI Laptops in YouTube. These are the requirements which I am expecting from the system.

  • 8th Gen. Intel® Core™ i7 processor
  • NVIDIA Quadro P2000 GPU ( I still do not have a clear idea on differences between GTX, RTX and Quadro GPU technologies)
  • 16GB RAM with latest DDR technology
  • 15.6" or 14"Display and want to plug 2 external monitors
  • Portability & Durability
  • SSD 1TB storage ( SSD and Megnetic Hard disk combination is OK)

My price point is 200 000 Rs to 250 000 Rs

Thank You.
