Does this motherboard supports NVMe?

The motherboard is ASROCK H470M-HDV and the slots are mentioned in the attached file... But it doesn't have a M. 2 slot as far as I know ... But it says that it supports NVMe as bootable disks... So I need to know whether this motherboard supports NVMe and if it does what type of NVMe I should buy?

Thanks.

NVMe is a data transfer protocol. M.2 is a physical form factor standard.

So NVMe doesn't always mean m.2 or vice versa. SSD which use NVMe protocol can use different form factor like M.2, U.2, AIC or EDSFF.

Yes, that motherboard doesn't have a M.2 connector on it but you can use pcie 1x to m.2 adapter (like image below) to use an m.2 ssd as a boot drive (install OS). But if you use the second pcie slot which is only pcie 3.0 1x you won't get the max speed from a pcie 3.0 x4 ssd.

ok thanks very much for reply.... so I will only be able to use the ssd as a boot drive? Or I can use it for store files also?

And when using the M. 2 to pcie adapter will I be able to get the maximum speed of the NVMe drive?

Thanks....

You can use it boot or just store files. M.2 apdater doesn't affect the speed but amount of pcie lanes will.
